Performing Arts Competition Since 1908

Dear Headteacher,

This young person has entered the Hastings Musical Festival 2022. This gives them the opportunity to perform in front of an audience at The White Rock Theatre, to receive constructive feedback from an expert in their field, and to learn from fellow competitors. Performance is a skill for life; it can build confidence, enable engagement with others and help with self-esteem as well as speech and language skills. The experience of performing at the Festival has long been valued by Festival alumni, not just those who go on to become professional performers.

The Hastings Musical Festival takes place in February/March, taking over the White Rock Theatre for classes in dance, instrumental, singing and speech and drama. While weekends and evenings are used where possible, given the number and breadth of classes some take place during school hours, although the Festival tries to minimise the amount of school that a young person will miss through its scheduling.

We recognise that this year has been a very difficult one for schools but we sincerely hope you will be able to allow this young person time to take part in our Festival and to take advantage of the opportunity offered.  We are part of The British and International Federation of Festivals and work with East Sussex Authority to ensure we are compliant with all Safeguarding Measures.  Our Policies and Covid mitigations are all available on our website www.hastingsmusicalfestival.org.uk and we have qualified Chaperones available where necessary.

We hope you will give permission for the pupil to have this time away from school.
